Frank Lampard. Super Frank. Chelsea Midfielder, Club Captain, Engine, Goal scorer, Medal Winner, Record Breaker, European Champion, Legend. And that’s just on the pitch. A lot, but no where near enough, is made of what a gent our Frank is too.
There’s a few famous Frank’s in history. My other favourite had a nickname of ‘The Chairman of the Board’. That certainly could be assigned to our Frank too.
the many faces of a true pro
The record came at a critical time in Chelsea’s season and we were 1 nil down at Villa Park going into the 2nd half. The home crowd were not only enjoying what they thought would be 3 vital points for their premier league survival, but were saying goodbye to a legend of their own in Stiliyan Petrov. We were also a man down after Ramires was rightly given his marching orders for 2 bookable offenses.
Then, on the hour, up steps Sir Frank.
Much has been made of his innate ability to ghost into the box at the perfect moment to connect with a cross in order to bury it home. This was such a time.
However, this was just the equalizer, not just in the game but for the record too. The gent and professional in Frank straight away throughout not to over egg any celebration. The Chelsea faithful will be thinking about the record, perhaps even more than today’s result. Not Frank, it was still business as usual and as well as respect for his now joint club top scorer, he still had a job to do. He celebrated the goal like any other, a point to the sky, punching the air and in front of the traveling fans. He also tried to calm the situation, the jobs not done yet. Lets get to work.
And to all connected to Chelsea, including Frank himself, it felt like it was just a matter of when, not if he’d get 203 today.
As time was ticking away, the moment came. The brilliant Eden Hazard drifted in the the left hand side of the box, a simple yet intelligent pass across the keeper and who’s there…..GOAL!! RECORD!! SUPER FRANK!!
“RECORD RECORD RECORD, SUPER FRANKIE’S BROKE THE RECORD, IT WAS VILLA AWAY ON THE ELEVENTH OF MAY AND SUPER FRANKIE’S BROKE THE RECORD”

Our number 1 fanzine have had a great love affair with Frank and he’s adorned their front cover on many, many occasions, most recently in asking the board to sign him up.
Frank Loved this front cover
I mention at the top of this article that not enough is mentioned about Franks great and humble personality. He comes from football stock and has had drilled into him from an early age that you have to work for your success. With this drive, working ethic he’s always appreciated the fans and what they go through just to be there in the stands. He understands were not all millionaires or work for companies that provide our free lunch in the West Middle. He knows what it means to us, because it means the same to him. Although he’s somewhat behind JT in the cfcuk ‘players lifts league’ he’s always had time for the fans. This, above all else (other attributes obviously also include being giving 100% even in the wet Wednesday night games up north to a 2nd div team), helps give him the truly deserved legend status that seems to be banded about by most of the Internet/ non match going (as in NEVER been or likely to bother to go) / glory hunting fans base nowadays.
Frank also loves the fanzine and its often heard of being passed around the dressing room on match days.
This last one was in Prague, where I’d personally missed meeting the team by a matter of hours after I’d already visited the castle and crossed back over the bridges before the team decided to go for a walk about.
Thanks to @onlyapound for the cfcuk pics.
Artistic license has allowed me to put these pics in the order I have. However please let me know if any should be moved around at all.
These pics were collected from a variety of sources, one of which was twitter. However if I’ve used your pic and you’d prefer I didn’t, please let me know and I’ll happily remove it.
