Chelsea Season Preview 2014/15

New signings

Diego Costa was bought for £32M from Atletico Madrid.

He is a very powerful striker and also has the speed to worry defenders. He is the striker we have been missing ever since Drogba left the club. He can run in behind the defenders who he can receive the ball into feet and hold it up and bring others into play. He also has an eye for goal having scored 27 goals in 34 games last season.

Cesc Fabregas was signed from Barcelona for a fee around £30M. He is a central midfield but can play in the number 10 or even as a make shift striker. His range of passing is exceptional and he showed this on his Chelsea debut. He has a good understand with Costa with both having played in the same team for Spain. He is also a good set piece taker. At times last season we were too slow at moving the ball from the defenders to the midfield therefore when Hazard, Oscar or Willian received the ball they are closely marked. With Fabregas in the side the transition between the midfielders and the attackers will be quicker therefore we will catch more team out.

Filipe Luís was signed from Atletico Madrid for a fee of 15.8M. He became the second player to swap Madrid for London following Diego Costa. He is an attacking full back that gets forward, think a younger Ashley Cole bombing up and down the left flank. He is very good in possession and can keep the ball in tight situations. I have watched him twice live once in Madrid and once in London and I have been very impressed with him. Now Azpilicueta can move back to right back but he was brilliant at left back.
Dider Drogba was signed on a free transfer from Galatasaray. Words can’t do justice what he did for our club. That wining penalty in Munich was the best feeling I have experienced at a football match. He won’t be a first team starter but if we need a goal with 10 or 15 minutes to go he is a very good player to bring on if needed. I fully believe he can make a difference and it will be good experience for the other players to have a club legend around.

Key players

Eden Hazard joined two years ago and he has been a revelation since joining. He created two goals on his debut against Wigan. From than he went from strength to strength he quickly settled into the premier league and finished his with 69 games for club and country scoring 15 goals. He got better last season under Jose Mourinho his stand out performances were against Sunderland and of course his hat trick against Newcastle. This season he will create loads of chances for Diego Costa and hopefully chip in with some more goals.

John Terry (Captain, Leader, Legend) he has come through the youth team and is a natural born leader. Since he took the captaincy from Marcel Desailly. He has gone been faultless. With the ‘Special One’ he stood out and made it in the PFA team of the year. He helped us concede the least amount goals in the league last season he might be getting old but he is still a valuable member of the squad and he still offers a lot to the young players coming through the youth team.

Our main rivals this season will Man City and Manchester United. Man City will be up there as normal and with Man Utd only playing once a week they will have a good period of rest in between games where as us, City, Liverpool and Arsenal will be playing twice a week. Arsenal will start strong but will fade like they normally do around March time. With Liverpool losing Suarez and having not replaced him as yet. If they can get a replacement they will be up there.

I believe we will finish top. With Jose having put his squad in place last season we are in the perfect position to win the league and Jose is putting his mark on the squad.
